Breakthrough builds a path through college, beginning in middle school, for students who will become the first in their families to earn a college degree or credential. Each year Breakthrough admits 280 high-potential fifth and sixth graders and commits to helping them graduate from college. Breakthrough’s 10+ year program combines academic preparation and guidance, summer programs, school-year support, college-prep activities, a college going culture, and family engagement. Our mission is to help students become the first in their family to go to college!
Rising 6th, 7th 8th and 9th graders attend a rigorous, five-week academic summer program at one of the following locations, The University of Texas-Austin, St. Andrew's Episcopal school, Manor ISD or Del Valle ISD. During the school year, students attend Saturday workshops, relieve individualize academic support and attend after school tutoring.
Breakthrough also supports students and families as they transition into high school. As students progress through high school, they participate in college fairs and college visits as well as SAT/ACT preparation. As high school graduation nears, Breakthrough students receive college counseling and financial aid help. The Breakthrough college completion team works to help students transition smoothly to college, find academic, professional and personal success while working towards a degree and eventually move into the professional chapter of their lives after college.
The program is at no cost to families. Students Pay with their participation and hard work.

I understand Breakthrough Central Texas is a ten-twelve year commitment. Breakthrough students will attend the Summer Program and the School Year Program throughout middle school and participate in the High School Program. During college, they will check- in with their advisor and alert Breakthrough when any problems arise. They will strive to overcome academic challenges and achieve academic growth. If they are struggling in a class, they will let their Breakthrough advisor know in order to get the help they need. They will be present and on time every day, unless there is an emergency. They will commit themselves fully to the program. They understand they must have a positive attitude. They will treat theirselves and others with respect. They will work hard. They will be open to new challenges. They will be enthusiastic about learning. If accepted, Breakthrough families agree to avoid scheduling events, vacations, or appointments during the dates and times of the program.
